Somali Cardiac Society Draft Hypertension Guideline 2025
The Somali Cardiac Society developed the Draft Hypertension Guideline 2025 to provide standardized and practical guidance for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of hypertension across Somalia.
The guideline was presented at the National Cardiac Conference under the theme “Advancing Cardiovascular Care through Primary Health Systems and Humanitarian Readiness.”
Developed with consideration of the WHO 2021 Guideline for the Pharmacological Treatment of Hypertension in Adults and the WHO PEN-H 2024 framework, the guideline is designed to support hypertension care across different levels of the health system, particularly primary healthcare and humanitarian settings.
Key areas covered include hypertension diagnosis and classification, accurate blood pressure measurement, cardiovascular risk assessment, lifestyle interventions, stepwise pharmacological treatment, hypertensive emergencies, management of special populations, follow-up and monitoring, and continuity of care in humanitarian and fragile settings.
The guideline emphasizes simple, affordable, scalable, and evidence-based approaches that can be implemented in resource-limited settings while strengthening early detection, treatment, blood pressure control, and long-term cardiovascular disease prevention.
